Volunteering

Spurred into action after the felling of diseased ash trees in early 2021, a group of volunteers has been meeting in the wood about once a month, to do what we can to protect and strengthen it for the future.

Many of us relied on the wood a great deal during Covid-19 and we want to preserve it as well as enjoy it.  We volunteer in a spirit of gratitude and simple joy at being in such a beautiful environment.

Making a difference

The natural hedges we have made from branches cut down during felling have encouraged people to keep to the paths. Already we can see much more growth of young trees and other plants, which create a better home for birds and other creatures. A tidy wood is not necesarily a healthy one and new shrubby areas are an achievement by the volunteers!

Who can join?

No experience or level of fitness is needed. It is a relaxed and friendly group of all ages and we generally work for about an hour. Gloves are your only recommended equipment. During the winter we tend to meet on Saturday or Sunday mornings. As the days get longer we alternate that with a late afternoon meeting, to try to meet people’s differing diaries.

Volunteering and supporting are not restricted to joining a working party in the wood.  We can also use fundraising, digital and social media skills.  All ideas are welcome and we will try to support them. If you would like to join us please contact sophie@frithwoodfriends.org.uk.
