Friends of Frith Wood (FOFW) is a charity set up to conserve, protect and improve the area of Frith Wood Bussage owned by Chalford Parish Council. We are working for the community and for wildlife, now and into the future.
This community woodland in Chalford Parish, between Stroud and Cirencester, Gloucestershire, is an historic beech wood much valued by a great number of local people. Right in the middle of a development, It is under pressure from its popularity and from climate change.
OUR WOOD IS UNDER A LOT OF PRESSURE AND URGENTLY NEEDS OUR SUPPORT.
IT WOULD BE LOVELY TO ‘LEAVE IT TO NATURE’ BUT WITH ALL THE PEOPLE USING IT THIS WILL MAKE ITS FUTURE UNCERTAIN. SEE OUR NEW VIDEO ABOUT ALL THE PRESSURES ON THIS HISTORIC WOOD AND WHAT WE CAN DO.
Friends of Frith Wood works on behalf of Chalford Parish Council, in the part of the wood owned by the Council. The other owner is Robert Hitchins, which developed the estate around the wood. Our hope is that the whole wood will eventually be owned and safeguarded by FOFW on behalf of the community.
In 2023 we have created our first nature sanctuary and with the Parish Council have improved access in and out of the wood for the whole community
